Office of School Planning Proposal

February 4, 2022

Dear P.S. K771 Families,

I am writing to share that the New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) has posted a proposal to open and co-locate a new elementary site of P.S. K771 (75K771), to be called P771K@K203, in building K203, beginning in the 2022-2023 school year. Building K203 (K203) is located at 5101 Avenue M, Brooklyn, NY, 11234 in Community School District 22.

If this proposal is approved, P771K@K203 will open in K203 and be co-located with P.S. 203 Floyd Bennet (22K203), referred to as P.S. 203, an existing zoned district elementary school serving students in grades K-5 and offering a 3-K and pre-Kindergarten (pre-K) program. A co-location means that two or more schools are located in the same building and may share common spaces, such as auditoriums, gymnasiums, libraries, and cafeterias. If this proposal is approved, beginning in September 2022, P771K@K203 will serve approximately 48-96 students in eight Special Class (SC) sections in K203. K203 has sufficient space to accommodate this co-location.

This proposal must be voted on and approved by the Panel for Educational Policy (PEP) prior to implementation.

NYCDOE does not anticipate that, if approved, this proposal will impact any of the P.S. K771 sites that your child(ren) currently attend(s).

Where can I learn more about this proposal?

This letter serves as notice that the Educational Impact Statement (EIS) for this proposal has been posted on the NYCDOE’s website at: https://www.schools.nyc.gov/about-us/leadership/panel-for-education-policy/2021-2022-pages/march-23-2022-school-utilization-proposals.

We encourage you to visit that website as we will update it with important dates and new information as they become available. Copies of the EIS for this proposal are also available in the main offices P.S. K771 and P.S. 203.

How can I provide feedback?

This proposal must be voted on and approved by the PEP prior to implementation. We anticipate that the PEP will vote on this proposal on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at 6 p.m. at Long Island City High School, located at 14-30 Broadway, Queens, NY, 11106. Feedback about this proposal may be shared at the March 23, 2022 PEP meeting.

In advance of the PEP vote, a Joint Public Hearing for this proposal will be held in K203 on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at 6 p.m. All community members will have the opportunity to share feedback about this proposal at the Joint Public Hearing.

Feedback about this proposal may also be shared at any time by e-mailing D22proposals@schools.nyc.gov or by calling 212-374-0208.

The official Notice of Proposal and Joint Public Hearing is attached.

Thank you very much,
